The Corgi Genie

I took my corgi out to pee.
It was a hard day, not yet three.
She turned her head to me mid squat,
And said these words, I shit you not:

“Gene, you crave a boon, and I’m your genie
Make a wish, don’t make it teeny,
This wish you wish could change the world
Could end all hunger or end all quarrel.

But if I know you, you’ll wish for change.
A wish so vague, of unlimited range,
And as a genie I must adhere
To the genie code of being weird.

So do wish carefully, do wish true,
For wishing too broadly may spell your doom.
Do wish clearly, but don’t wish for too much,
Because a greedy wish is beyond your clutch.“

I looked my corgi right in the eyes,
Her ears were pinned back in surprise,
As I told her my wish was none too large,
I wish only for a “fully swanked out barge.”

Next I knew I was on my way to the river,
My genie-corgi said she’d meet me thither.
A barge floated there, it was well appointed,
But the 2nd mate I’d rather have avoided.

I landed on the ship and to me Elon Musk said,
“I’ll ensure your barge runs full steam ahead.”
He cut the engine and he cut the bow,
And his toddler told me “I’m the captain now.”

I ran to my corgi who laughed at this prank.
Saying “aye matey, ye must walk the plank.”
I asked her how many wishes she’d grant me,
And to that she said she’d given “wishes three”

So I look her in the eyes,
Again her ears laid back in surprise.
I gave her two wishes as clear as can be,
“I wish to undo my wish, but leave Elon at sea."
